Adventure Time Bar began with a love story, a wildly ambitious idea, and absolutely no interest in playing it safe.
Sam and Laura met in 2016 at a walk-up Starbucks while living in Los Angeles. Sam spent a decade in the film industry and the comic book world, plus years traveling to conventions, and he'd worked in the service industry since he was 14. He loved hospitality, cooking, and creating ambitious craft cocktails. Eventually, one question became impossible to ignore: What if all of those worlds could be brought together under one roof?
Laura—a Colorado native and successful small business owner in her own right- brought the financial smarts, business acumen, and keen eye for detail that could turn Sam’s enormous creative ideas into an actual business. Together, they set out to create a cocktail bar where serious drinks and genuine hospitality could coexist with pure, unapologetic fun.
Colorado was always the destination. Laura wanted to come home to Colorado, and they wanted to start a family surrounded by her immediate family and his extended family. After nearly two years of searching, they found their place just off South Broadway in Denver’s Baker neighborhood.
Then came the build-out.
Adventure Time was a grand dream built on a shoestring budget—and the road to opening was harder than either of them imagined. There was an incredibly long permitting process, major construction setbacks, and a painful fallout with their general contractor. When they finally opened, the economy took a severe downturn less than a month later.
Plenty of moments made quitting seem sensible. But neither Sam nor Laura has much quit in them. Especially Sam, whose work ethic Laura lovingly describes as “psychotic.”
Through every challenge, they held onto the heart of Adventure Time while learning to listen. They listened to their guests, their Baker neighbors, and the city of Denver—and changed the business to better fit what people actually wanted: no tickets, no time limits, exceptional cocktails, warm service, and something fun going on nearly every night.
The thing they are proudest of is not the elaborate décor or the complicated cocktail techniques. It is the hospitality. Sam and Laura genuinely love taking care of people and have built Adventure Time Bar to feel like the most fun version of home—a place where you can be yourself, let your hair down, drink something remarkable, and have a great night.
That is the Adventure. And EVERYONE is invited.
